Caring for your self is a vital skill that should be learned and practiced throughout your own personal journey.
I have learned many things about taking care of my self throughout my almost 40 years of life. I have come to know through my personal Red Tent journey that most of what I thought I knew were actually myths.
Let's tackle some of those here. We also work on these myths during our women's circles and other events.
Practicing self-care is selfish.
False! Just false! This is what I thought and what I saw and heard throughout most of my life. NO MORE! There is a huge list of things that women are taught to believe are selfish (dreams, desires, goals, going after what you want, living authentically, speaking your truth, speaking up... I could go on and on!)
Practicing self-care should meet x criteria.
Nope. Notice the word "self" in self-care. People often forget that and we're honestly taught that, in my experience. Self-care is what works for you, according to your own truth. For example, keeping bees (you'll notice a theme if you stick around) is very much self-care for me. I COMPLETELY understand how that might not be self-care for you. It might be quite the opposite actually.
I don't have time for self-care.
I believe, because self-care is and should be part of a regular practice, you can make the time. Also, self-care does not have to be a major event or come at a huge expense. It can be very simple or as outlandish as you wish.
Self-care only benefits me, if it does have a benefit.
Again, false. You cannot pour from an empty come. Women are taught to give, even at their own expense. Walk this journey with me and we'll empower each other to say NO MORE! When I take care of myself it directly benefits the people around me. It helps me do what needs to be done. It helps me drop some of the things that are just busy-ness and prioritize the important things in my life.
